The Effingham County Victim Witness Assistance Program (EVWAP) serves as a vital bridge between the personal safety and the trauma of violent crime. Navigating the legal system can be an overwhelming experience, often leaving individuals feeling vulnerable or unheard. Our mission is to ensure that no victim walks that path alone. We provide professional advocacy, emotional support, and essential resources to victims and witnesses as they seek protection through the judicial system and begin the healing process.
Our Core Services
We offer a comprehensive range of support designed to secure the safety of you and your family, as well as promote healing:
Courtroom Advocacy: Our advocates provide personal accompaniment to court proceedings for temporary protective orders, offering a steady presence in high-stress environments.
Victim Compensation: We assist in the preparation of Georgia Crime Victims Compensation applications to help cover medical bills, counseling, or lost wages in applicable cases.
Crisis Intervention: Immediate emotional support and referrals to specialized community resources, including shelters and support groups.
Victim Impact Statements: We guide you in exercising your right to share how a crime has affected your life before the court.
We are advocates and our efforts are dedicated to identifying resources for any community member who calls or comes in to the office. Sometimes we are the resource, and there are grounds to pursue for a TPO. Other times we refer to any number of partnering agencies and organizations throughout our community.
